My boyfriend is planning to move to Colombia next month for work. We both love each other dearly and have agreed to have a long-distance relationship, but I’m a bit skeptical on how we can make this work out. I read some love tour testimonials from couples that have LDRs and it seems communication is the key to making it work out. Any other tips or advice you guys can give me to help maintain our relationship? I appreciate it!

Hi @ldrelationship25

Personally I haven't been in a long distance relationship myself but I'm hoping someone else will be able to provide you with some top notch advice.

A friend of mine is in a LDR and their relationship is solid, it can definitely work as long as you both put the effort in.

I have a couple of questions:

- How long is he moving away for? A month, two, a year?
- Is he very career driven? Do you think that he would choose his career over your relationship?
- How long have you been together for?

Long distance relationship is certainly possible, i have been in 1 for 7 years myself. Since the decision is already made, i suggest you prepare to implement some LDR habits.

To make the best out of the situation, you could commit to video chat more often. Me and my girlfriend we FaceTime whenever possible, even when we are sleeping. Just having you beloved with you all the time, even if it's not physically, could help reduce the longing for each other.

For the video chat app, me and my gf feel that FaceTime is the best we have used. We have tried Viber, Skype, Whatsapp video, FB video, but the quality of FaceTime is superior.

What else you could is perhaps start planning a trip to see him. Maybe start saving up money or booking a early ticket to get a cheaper price.

For the long run, perhaps you 2 should start thinking about what you should do. Now it depends on if the work is temporary or not etc and what you should do to be together in the future.

Wish you all the best :).
