Hey all,

My question to you all is: what is the difference between dating and in a relationship.

At what stage do you formally know that you're in a relationship with someone? Are you not in a relationship until you both talk about being in a relationship, or until one of you asks the other person to be their boyfriend/girlfriend?

I'd like to hear your thoughts regarding this, from your experience what have you done? Asked them to be your girlfriend/boyfriend, or have just gone alone with it assuming that you're now in a relationship?

i think it's important t ohave that discussion about whether you would like to be in a relationship, i personally would like the person im dating to ask me if i would like to be their girlfriend!

i couldn't imagine continuing on with someone and then "assuming" you are together when you haven't even asked.

Commitment. That's the difference between dating and being in a relationship. When you're just dating, I believe you don't have much of a say with your partner. You don't have a right to be jealous too. But once you're in a relationship, somehow you're responsible for her and plan for the future together.

In dating you are building your relationship, In this stage both of you are building trust connection and love for each other. and in relationship both of you are committed to each other and both of you will protect and guard each other because if you are in relationship you should take care of your partner

In dating that's the stage where both of you are getting to know each other. while in a relationship you already fall in love with each other.

I think it's important to clarify with whoever you may be interested in or talking to with what you're looking for. People make assumptions and often times assumptions are wrong and can lead to people getting hurt. When you start dating with open honesty it will lead to better communication and understanding to where each of you are. With that in mind it's much easier to make the decision together.

If you lookup relationship in a dictionary you will get something like: "the way in which two or more people or things are connected with or involve each other"

There are all kinds of relationships. You can have a relationship with a friend, family, even your pet and so on.

So the real question may be "what TYPE of relationship do you have"

You could go on dating this girl date after date after date and that means you are connected in doing this one activity together. So it is a relationship. If you decide to jump in bed together and do it again and again one would say you have a sexual relationship. If you decide to move in with each other and share your daily life as a couple,  most would say you have a serious relationship.

And so on.

Agreed with everything winstonjack has mentioned, hope this answers your questions @goodevening!
