I think it's pretty much accepted it's evil but many parents still do it.  Anyway, how about your partner?  Is it a problem for you - assuming you all are around kids regularly?

I don't tolerate my husband in smoking while the children are around. He can smoke but never near the kids to avoid any asthma attacks.

My husband and I don't smoke - and if any of our family or friends smoked around our kids I'd be furious, honestly.

The dangers of smoking are well known these days, it's not like there's a question about it...so anyone who would jeopardize my kids health probably isn't someone I want to be hanging around with anyway!

I'm not yet married but my parents don't smoke. They actually believe that second hand smoke is much more dangerous. A lot of people have died because of that, and that's why my parents don't smoke at all for me and my siblings' sake. I actually also believe that it is bad to show your smoking addiction to your children because they will eventually copy that in the future. As parents, your are their role model and thus, you should be a good one for them to be non-troublemakers in the future.

However, I'm not closing my mind to those parents who have properly educated their children even though they smoke sometimes or every time in front of their children.

I'm a smoker, but I'm responsible smoker.  I don't smoke in front of my brother's kids.  I do smoke inside my room with has a good ventilation.  I know my responsibilities, and smoking while kids around you, is not only bad for their health, they will also become curious and might use smoke when they grow up.  As an adult, we have to become responsible specially if we have kids around us.  We should be a good example for them.

I grew up around people who smoke and I ended up being smoker myself.

I would not connect that, but I usually do not mind if parents smoke in front of the children, as long as the smoke is not staying in the room where the child is.

Everything has to be balanced when it comes down to bad habits from parents, but smoking is one of the least thing.

I do not smoke but my wife does, still, she never smokes when she is around our kids. Besides, we are living in a house with a yard and when she wants to smoke she gets out the house, she never smokes in the house.

I think it's pretty lazy and inconsiderate - to be honest.  >:(  I don't understand the mindset behind it.  Apparently these parents live in another time, maybe the 1980s?  Anyway, some are quite resentful of the criticism saying complainers have an attitude and/or being politically correct. Politically correct?  What a weak answer!  ::)

I think his answer is at least somewhat considerate - which is more than what I've seen with smokers where I live!  I mean, some of them simply don't think smoke hurts children!  So why would they feel that way?
