I think some is good, some not.  For instance, I'm not for men/boys crying - but being fake isn't good.  Also, it's more acceptable for women/girls to cry, but it's probably not good for them - to constantly do it.  Anyway, I think empathy is always a good thing, but also, like with crying, it can become a weak thing and possibly corny or annoying.  :)

My husband doesn't see my crying as corny or annoying. Not all of the girls just cry for the sake of crying. Some of us cry because of some deeper reasons that are better left unspoken. We may be weak as you said, but that weakness helps us release the pain and tensions within us. It's not bad to cry after all. Boys cry either even they are happy.

Crying is not a sign of weakness, instead you're strong enough to show your emotion with other people, specially to your partner, but you should have reasonable explanation before you do that or else your partner might think you're crazy.  I don't usually cry, specially in front of my partner, never actually, but once my girlfriend cries, I immediately change the topic, and do some crazy things just to make her smile again.

I can understand if a male cried at say, his dad's funeral, but I would try to avoid it myself.  Anyway, a male that publicly cries for reasons that aren't extreme is especially a bad thing.  It's just not natural I think.

I grew up in olden times and it wasn't cool for a man to cry - ever.  Nonetheless, I did cry at my dad's funeral - but that might be a good exception.  Anyway, though, I am a bit ashamed of that!
